Melchoir Fordney was an influential gunmaker in Lancaster in the early 1800's. The inlays are taken from the Fordney in the NRA collection. The tear drops on either side of the cheek piece eagle have what are probably fig leaves on one and arrows on the other. For war or peace? The carving is my interpretation of several Fordneys. |
